Before Michael founded Tandem Design Build, he was leading orchestras—not job sites! With a master’s degree in orchestral conducting and years spent as a high school orchestra teacher, music was his first career. But building has always been in his blood.
Now, as the lead carpenter and owner at Tandem, Michael brings the same precision and artistry to renovation projects that he once brought to the podium. He especially loves working with wood—custom trim work and finish carpentry are where his skills really shine. (Just ask his wife about the floor-to-ceiling built-ins he recently finished for their home!)
Michael’s priority on every job is to exceed expectations with clean, organized job sites and top-notch craftsmanship. Serving the Macon community has been a joy—he’s deeply grateful for the word-of-mouth referrals that keep Tandem growing.
Outside of work, Michael stays busy restoring his family’s century-old farmhouse and passing on his love of music to his six kids. He’s still a musician at heart, and on Sundays you’ll find him playing in the praise band at church.
Keaton’s path to construction started in the art studio, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in sculpture and developed a love for working in three dimensions. Today, he channels that same creativity into building and renovating, crafting spaces that are both functional and beautiful.
Keaton especially shines when it comes to tile work. From a simple backsplash to a floor-to-ceiling shower, he has a gift for turning “just functional” spaces like kitchens and bathrooms into showpieces full of character and sophistication. For him, the best part of the job is seeing a customer light up when their dream space comes to life.
Building runs deep in Keaton’s family—his dad was a builder too, and Keaton grew up admiring the projects his father left behind in towns across Missouri. That same passion for craftsmanship and integrity drives Keaton’s work today.
Outside of Tandem, Keaton and his wife, Erika, recently welcomed their first child, Kolt. When he’s not chasing his baby boy, you might find him golfing, foraging for mushrooms, practicing at the shooting range, or picking at his guitar. A hometown guy at heart, Keaton is grateful to bring both his artistry and his craftsmanship back to La Plata and to the families he serves.
With a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design and years of industry experience, Susan brings both formal training and creative vision to every project at Tandem Design Build.
Before co-founding the company, she spent three years working professionally in the design field—then stepped back to raise and homeschool her six kids. Today, she’s found the perfect balance: continuing to homeschool while also doing what she loves most—designing beautiful, functional spaces for clients throughout Macon and the surrounding areas.
Her true passion lies in historical architecture and interiors, and that love shows in every detail she designs. But she enjoys blending styles and working with contemporary design just as much—especially when it means finding creative ways to make a space both timeless and livable.
Clients especially appreciate her hand-drawn sketches, which help bring ideas to life with a personal, thoughtful touch. From the first consultation to the final finishes, Susan works closely with homeowners to create interiors that are not only stunning, but tailored to how families truly live.
